BHARATPUR

The typical image of a nesting colony of Painted storks in Bharatpur.

Where there is water there will be life… In Bharatpur, this holds especially true for birds, both resident Indians and those migrating from lands too far for creatures like us to consider for annual sojourns. Sheila Chhabra and Nikhil Devasar jumped to capture the moment when it finally rained in this long-thirsty wetland. »»

HOGENAKKAL

Hogenakkal in fine fettle.

The Cauvery, home to mighty mahseer and the bone of contention between states that share her waters, makes a forceful entry into Tamil Nadu at Hogenakkal. Local politics aside, its majesty is determined by the rainfall upstream—Sujata Nath and Pradeep Chamaria were delighted at what the Hogenakkal Falls offered recently. »»

NANDA JAT

Nanda Ghunti, in all her splendour!

Chandra Singh Negi went on a pilgrimage. The loss of his sneakers was more than compensated by what he gained, isually and spiritually. In the end, this pilgrim had indeed made progress. »»

SIMPLY SRI LANKAN WETLANDS

A cockfight - Purple swamphen-style!

Ayubowan! Simply put in Sinhalese, it wishes you a long life. For Supriya Mukherjee and Kalyan Patra, it meant, ‘Do return soon to sample all we have to offer’—which indeed would take a long, long time! »»

BHANDARDARA

Rain-painted colours!

Rain, where you need it, when it is needed and in the amount that is just right—is what good weather is all about. Though saddened by the devastation caused by unseasonal rains in Maharashtra recently, Sujata Nath and Kalyan Patra recollect a visit to Bhandardara with fondness. In spite of inclement weather, they enjoyed their sojourn and would love to visit again. »»

RAMGANGA

A cottage at Vanghat River Lodge - to be enjoyed if you are not fishing!

Kalyan Patra loves to go fishing but usually returns empty-handed! Sandhya Shadangi had been forewarned of this but she went along nevertheless. They did return empty-handed but smiling— in a catch-and-release system, you can have your cake and then leave it for others too! »»

SARAHAN

When you are praying to the gods, a clear line of vision helps - the Bhimakali Temple and the immediate solace it offers.

Deserted wide highways and then you need to stop for a flock of sheep acting very unpedestrian-like! Lokesh Abrol drove to Sarahan and enjoyed the ups and downs and the side-ways manouevering involved in the journey. In fact, he even got mileage out of a road he did not travel on! »»
