DEFINITELY NOT FOR SQUARES

And so flows the Ganga, deceptively quiet at places!

Rafters from North America to Australia, from Siberia to South Africa—they came from all points of the compass to compete on one of the greatest rivers of the world— the Ganga. WORSHIP AT THE GREEN ALTAR

This mangrove-like tree proves that if you worship a forest, even the ground seems to rise to salute you.

Everybody tries to be as one with whoever they worship. Irrespective of the labels of our respective religions, we must all acknowledge the supremeness of Nature. Ashok Nath visits the Sacred Groves of Goa—pockets of sanctity that need to be multiplied a million-fold so we can live better now, instead of building up a bank-balance that we cannot take with us to a hereafter of sorts we cannot bank upon. »»

Pelicans coming in for the kill.

The birds do it, the bees do it and Ranjit Lal and Rajiv Dang do it too. They all visit Bharatpur again and again. »»

TUNGNATH

With or without reflecting on it, the place is beautiful.

MANTHERAN

‘I awoke with a start...’—our eco-friendly entry into the greenery of Matheran.

Supriya and KP went to Matheran because it is close to Mumbai and they had a weekend to kill. They took the train up and returned impressed by the ambience of the place. No hillsides full of shabby hotels and no traffic to dodge except some handsome horses. The train was clean and blue, the town clean and green! »»

Over the ages, they have won the admiration of flower aficionados everywhere, become the National Flower of Japan and are being cultivated as the centre-piece of the gardens of a million green-thumbs worldwide. Krishan Avtar Abrol and Lokesh Abrol share with us their passion for the flower of a hundred petals. »»

STRIKING IT RICH IN SONANANDI

Look at that grin! Something near this crocodile is surely in trouble.

Sonanadi who? Neighbouring the better known Corbett National Park, the Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary has been shielded from the excessive attention of media, tourists and interfering busybodies and that has stood it in good stead. Samir Sinha takes you on a trip of discovery to the virgin forests that are home to a wonderful variety of flora and fauna. »»
